At Mountain Sports, adventure isn’t just what we sell – it’s who we are. For over 50 years, we’ve been helping people connect with nature and discover the thrill of the outdoors. What started as a small canoe rental shop has grown into a trusted destination for everything from kayaks to camping gear, hiking equipment, ski gear, and more. Our journey has been one of constant growth and exploration, much like the adventures our customers embark on. Our History

We’ve been helping people chase the spirit of adventure for over five decades. So, for us, it’s not just a profession – it’s an obsession. We’ve come a long way over the years, but we’ll never stop forging new paths and helping more people get out there and discover the awe of the outdoors.

1972
Mountain Sports was founded in a 500sq ft store in Arlington, Texas. We were known as Arlington Canoe Rental back then.

1973
We changed our name to Southwest Canoe and Kayak and moved into a larger building. We were all about canoes, kayaks and camping gear in those days.

Mid-Late 1970s
We opened a second location named Southwest Canoe & Trail. During this time, we broadened our selection to include ski equipment, outdoor apparel and accessories.

1984
We officially became Mountain Sports. It took us a while, but we finally found our true identity and changed our name for the last time.

1987
We moved into our current location in Arlington, TX. And we’ve been here ever since. This is our home.

1996
We launched mountainsports.com and began shipping to all states nationwide.

2024
We were acquired by specialty retailer Lone Star Footwear Company. LSF founder Tyler Harrison, along with his wife Georgia Mae and their three young children, have a deep love for spending time outdoors as a family.
